Even in a world that looked nothing like Vincent had left behind and in a body he barely recognized, there were anchor points to keep him on track.

After Meteorfall, Vincent goes soul-searching. Chocobos are involved.

He paused at the riverbed, first looking across the way, at Mount Nibel in the distance, then down at the gently rushing waters. The sun was still on its descent, lighting just enough to let Vincent see his reflection in the clear cool water, and crimson eyes narrowed in disgust as he turned away, a short “tch” hissed out from barely-open lips. He might look human, but he knew better. They all knew better...

The past had its way of catching up to Vincent, and even when he resolved to hunt down the source of his woes, his past haunted him still. Even with people who accepted him, he couldn't help but be reminded in every little thing he did—in every little text he read—that he was "the other."

The ultimatum had come down from President Shinra at 5:00 AM Thursday: Find out who was sabotaging the Sector Two reactor in twenty-four hours, or kiss your ass goodbye. The kiss was metaphorical. “Goodbye” was not. Vincent didn’t need to ask what it meant.

What is the rating of this zine?
Chaos Theory was a 16+ project due to character accurate themes of violence and horror, but does not feature sexual content. All contributors were over 18 years of age at the time of the project.
Were any pairings included?
Chaos Theory was a non-shipping zine and featured canon-compliant character interactions, but no romantic content.
Is the zine canon compliant?
All content in Chaos Theory was canon-compliant with regard to in-universe events and characters, while featuring non-canon events, interactions and imagery based on the preferences and creativity of the contributors.
Was there an interest check to fill out?
The interest check went live immediately following our Vincent Week 2022 event! It closed at 11:59 PM EST on March 14th, 2022. The project has since completed; check out our timeline page to see how it all went down!
What charity did this project support?
Chaos Theory is proud to have supported Bat Conservation International, which strives to end the extinction of a misunderstood mammal responsible for a huge portion of natural insect control, seed dispersal and pollination the world over. All proceeds from sales of the zine were donated on July 18, 2023, totaling $1482.19 USD.
What if I wanted to contribute?
Chaos Theory was an invite-only fan project. All contributors were approached directly by a member of the mod team in April 2022.
How were contributors selected?
All contributors were chosen based on a number of factors including quality and prolificity of work, known interest in the character, and whether or not they had participated in a similar project in the past.
Was previous zine experience required?
Quite the opposite—our goal was to primarily seek out artists and writers that have been overlooked in other fandom projects of this scale in order to offer them a platform to express their love for the fandom in a fun and creative way, regardless of following or experience.
Why was this zine invite-only?
As mentioned above, the goal with this project was to seek out quality work that had been overlooked by other fan projects. By going invite-only, creators that operated through other social media platforms, those who may have been disheartened by multiple rejections to the point that they no longer applied to fan projects, and those who were known for their love of a character or series but had never looked into zine participation before were given the same chance as everyone else to participate!
Did the zine feature cosplay?
Contributors to Chaos Theory were limited to writers and illustrators. Photographers, textile artists and real-life models were not included.
When was the zine released?
Shipping of preorders was completed in April 2023, with all orders delivered by mid-May. Leftovers were fulfilled by mid-July 2023. Our full production cycle is viewable on the timeline page.
I have a different question!
